            Exceptions against The new Oath <lb/>
            in ye Canons from Devonshire
         </head>
         <p>
            <add place="LM">
               1.
            </add>
            That they are bound to take it willingly, w<ex>hi</ex>ch they cannot doe <lb/>
            w<ex>i</ex>th a safe conscience, &amp; so shall be periured ipso facto.
         </p>
         <p>
            <add place="LM">
               2.
            </add>
            That they must sweare sincerely, w<ex>i</ex>thout any mentall reservation, <lb/>
            yet the (&amp;c) in the oath reserveth, or implieth somewhat more <lb/>
            then is expressed, w<ex>hi</ex>ch they must conceiue, or understand.
         </p>
         <p>

            </add>
            That they must acknowledge both Doctrine, &amp; Discipline of o<ex>u</ex>r <lb/>
            Church to containe all things necessary to salvation, w<ex>hi</ex>ch is <lb/>
            not true of the Discipline.
         </p>
         <p>

               4.
            </add>
            That they are tied never to giue <del rend="strikethrough">any</del> consent to any altera-<lb break="no"/>
            tion of the sayd discipline, though the King, &amp; state shoud en-<lb break="no"/>
            ioyne <ex>the</ex>m <ex>the</ex>r<ex>e</ex>unto.
         </p>
         <p>

               5.
            </add>
            That the oath crosseth, or contradicteth the Oath of Allegiance, <lb/>
            &amp; Supremacy, w<ex>hi</ex>ch they haue allready taken, because if the King <lb/>
            by Parliam<ex>en</ex>t shold disanull any part of Ecclesiasticall Discipline, <lb/>
            or by a Synod shall alter it, they ar by taking this oath ne-<lb break="no"/>
            ver to consent.
         </p>
         <p>

               6.
            </add>
            That it is a flatt band against the power of Parliam<ex>en</ex>ts, because <lb/>
            the Clergy can constitute noe canons, much lesse make, or im-<lb break="no"/>
            pose new Oaths, unles the Parliam<ex>e</ex>t confirme <ex>the</ex>m, &amp; <ex>the</ex>r<ex>e</ex>fore they <lb/>
            thinke it a proiect to <sic>tr</sic> trippe up the heeles of all parliaments <lb/>
            for ever.
         </p>
         <p>
            <add place="LM">7</add>
            That it clipps the wings of royall pr<ex>e</ex>rogative, &amp; spirituall su-<lb break="no"/>
            premacy, barring his Ma<ex>jes</ex>ty, &amp; his Successours from altering any <lb/>
            thing in Church Governm<ex>en</ex>t, either by Synod, or Convocation, or <lb/>
            Parliam<ex>en</ex>t.
         </p>
         <p>
            <add place="LM">8.</add>
            The maine foundation, w<ex>hi</ex>ch the Clergy builds on, is the <lb/>
            generall resolution of the Lawyers, That noe Oath can be <lb/>
            ordained, nor any authorized to giue it, unles it be first <lb/>
            established by Parliament./.
         </p>
