            A Copy of a Letter <ex>tha</ex>t was found among those <lb/>

         <p>
            Father Rector,

         <p>
            Let not the damp of astonishm<ex>en</ex>t seiz upon yo<ex>u</ex>r most dear, &amp; zealous soul,<lb/>
            in appr<ex>e</ex>hending the sudden, &amp; unexpected calling of this Parli<ex>amen</ex>t; we haue not<lb/>
            opposed, but rather farthered it; for <ex>tha</ex>t we hope as much in this Parl<ex>iamen</ex>t,<lb/>
            as ever we feared one in Q. Eliz. days; You must know the Councell <lb/>
            is engaged to assist the King by way of pr<ex>e</ex>rogatiue, in case the Parli-<lb break="no"/>
            am<ex>en</ex>t shold fail. You shall see this Parliam<ex>en</ex>t resembl the Pelican, w<ex>hi</ex>ch <lb/>
            takes pleasure with her beak to digg out her owne bowalls.
         </p>
         <p>
            The elections of the Kn<ex>igh</ex>ts, &amp; Burgesses haue been in such confusion,<lb/>
            &amp; by such apparent faction, as <ex>tha</ex>t w<ex>hi</ex>ch we w<ex>e</ex>r<ex>e</ex> wont to procure heretofore with<lb/>
            much art, &amp; industry (w<ex>he</ex>n the Spanish match was in treaty) now it breaks<lb/>

            venome.
         </p>
         <p>
            You may remember how <ex>tha</ex>t famous, &amp; im<ex>m</ex>ortall Statesman the Conde of <lb/>

            so y<ex>a</ex>t twice a day we can divulg w<ex>ha</ex>t we list in Pauls, &amp; upon the Exchange. <lb/>
            And we haue already rendred o<ex>u</ex>r irreconciliabl enemy the D. of Bucks, as <lb/>
            odious as a toad; for the peopl are apt to belieue any thing ag<ex>ains</ex>t him. We <lb/>
            hope to be revenged on y<ex>a</ex>t ball of wild-fire the D. &amp; to quench his fury; <lb/>
            you shall see y<ex>a</ex>t same sword y<ex>a</ex>t wounded us, being drawn upon <ex>th</ex>e wound <lb/>

            by working upon their passions, &amp; inebriating their fancyes, w<ex>i</ex>th p<ex>ro</ex>babilities &amp; <lb/>

            they may wrestle for a time, but at last the parl<ex>iament</ex> hath ov<ex>e</ex>rthrown y<ex>e</ex>m. We <lb/>
            encourage y<ex>e</ex>m, w<ex>i</ex>th all the witt we haue to fall upon the D. &amp; p<ex>er</ex>suade <lb/>
            y<eg>e</eg>m now is <ex>th</ex>e time or never, the K. being in such necessity; insomuch, y<ex>a</ex>t we assure <lb/>
            o<ex>u</ex>rselus y<ex>a</ex>t God hath forsaken &amp; infatuated y<ex>e</ex>m, y<ex>a</ex>t they not only strike, &amp; dash upon <lb/>

         </p>
         <p>
            We haue now many strings to o<ex>u</ex>r bow, &amp; haue strongly fortified o<ex>u</ex>r factions, &amp; <lb/>
            haue made 2 bulworks more; for w<ex>he</ex>n K. Iames lived, you know he was very <lb/>
            violent ag<ex>ains</ex>t Arminianism, &amp; interupted by his pestilent wit &amp; deep learning <lb/>

            w<ex>hi</ex>ch we hope will purge the Protestants of their Heresy; &amp; it flourisheth, &amp; <lb/>
            will beare fruit in du season.

         <p>
            The Materialls w<ex>hi</ex>ch build up o<ex>u</ex>r 2d Bullwork, are The Proiecto<ex>u</ex>rs, &amp; Beggars <lb/>

         <p>
            There is another matter of consequence, w<ex>hi</ex>ch we take much into o<ex>u</ex>r conside-<lb break="no"/>

            we will make y<sic>e</sic>m smart for it in earnest. I hope you will excuse my <lb/>
            merry digression, for I confess I am at this instant transported w<ex>i</ex>th ioy, to <lb/>
            see how happily all instrum<sic>en</sic>ts, &amp; meanes, as well g<ex>rea</ex>t, as less, cooperate to our <lb/>
            purpose. But to return to the main fabrick of o<ex>u</ex>r foundac<ex>i</ex>on, Arminianism. <lb/>
            The Arminians, &amp; Projecto<ex>u</ex>rs (as appeares by their devises) affect Mutac<ex>i</ex>on, <lb/>
            this we second &amp; inforce by probabl arg<ex>umen</ex>ts; In the 1st place we take into con-<lb break="no"/>

            hims<ex>elf</ex> of the his pr<ex>e</ex>sent Wardshipp, as K. Lewis 11th of france, did; &amp; for his splendo<ex>u</ex>r <lb/>
            &amp; lustre he may raise vast summs of mony &amp; not be beholding to his Subj<ex>ec</ex>ts, <lb/>
            w<ex>hi</ex>ch is By way of Imposic<ex>i</ex>ons, &amp; Excise; we instance The Low-countries, &amp; show <lb/>
            What a vast sum of mony they raise to pay their armies by sea &amp; land, <lb/>
            merely by excise. Then o<ex>u</ex>r Church-catholique p<ex>ro</ex>ceeds to show the meane how <lb/>
            to settle this excise, w<ex>hi</ex>ch must be By a mercinary Army of Horse, &amp; foot; for <lb/>
            the Hors, we haue made it sure y<ex>a</ex>t they shalbe forreners, &amp; Germans, who <lb/>
            will eate the Kings Revenue, &amp; spoile the Country wheresoever they come, <lb/>
            though they shold be well paid; w<ex>ha</ex>t havock will they make y<ex>e</ex>n, w<ex>he</ex>n they haue not <lb/>
            pay, or be not duly paid? surely they will do much more mischief y<ex>e</ex>n we <lb/>
            hope the Catholiques Army will doe. We are provident y<ex>a</ex>t this Mercanary Army <lb/>
            of 2000 Hors, &amp; 20000 foot shalbe taken into pay before the excise shalbe <lb/>
            setled. In forcing the excise, the Country is most likely to rise; if the Merci-<lb break="no"/>
            nary Army subiugate the Country, y<ex>e</ex>n <ex>th</ex>e Soldiers, &amp; Proiecto<ex>u</ex>rs shalbe paid out of <lb/>
            the Confiscations; if the Country be too hard for the Soldiers, y<ex>e</ex>n they must <lb/>
            consequently mutiny, w<ex>hi</ex>ch is equally advantageous to us.

            o<ex>u</ex>r best intelligence; besides, he hath Puttaches, &amp; Carvalls abroad to discover, so <lb/>
            you cannot be surprized in any Harbo<ex>u</ex>r. When trading is ruined, &amp; shipping <lb/>
