            Infirmityes A little to late) A Strange new yeares guifte/ vnto yo<ex>u</ex>r <lb/>
            Lo<ex>rdshi</ex>pp/ w<ex>hi</ex>ch I will pr<ex>e</ex>sume to Tearme the cheapest of all that <add place="above">you</add> haue rec<ex>eived</ex>/ <lb/>
            and yett of the richest materialls, In shorte it is onlye an Image of yo<ex>u</ex>r <lb/>
            selfe drawne by memorye fro<ex>m</ex> such discourse as I haue take vpp heere<lb/>
            and there of yo<ex>u</ex>r Lo<ex>rdshi</ex>pp amonge the most intelligent and vnmaligna<ex>n</ex>t men, <lb/>
            w<ex>hi</ex>ch to purtract before you I thought noe servile Office / but Ingenious <lb/>

            <hi rend="bold">They</hi> saye that in yo<ex>u</ex>r forraigne Employm<ex>en</ex>tes vnd<ex>e</ex>r K<ex>ing</ex> Iames yo<ex>u</ex>r Lo<ex>rdshi</ex>pp wan <lb/>
            the opyinon of A verye able and searchinge Iudgment havinge bene <lb/>

            the late duke of Buck<ex>ingham</ex> wa<ex>n</ex>ted then for his owne Ends A Martiall Secretary

            dition as yo<ex>u</ex>r Lo<ex>rdshi</ex>p since the Lord <hi rend="italic">Burghly</hi> vnder Queene Elizabeth who<ex>m</ex> <lb/>
            they make yo<ex>u</ex>r Parable in the ornament of knowledge / They observed in <lb/>
            yo<ex>u</ex>r Lo<ex>rdshi</ex>p divers remarkable Combinatons of Vertues &amp; abilityes rarely sociable

            <hi rend="bold">In</hi> the Character of yo<ex>u</ex>r aspecte A mixture of authoritie &amp; modestie <lb/>
            In the fa<del rend="strikethrough">

                </del>culties of yo<ex>u</ex>r mynde / quicke appr<ex>e</ex>hension and soliditie togither <lb/>
            In the Stile of yo<ex>u</ex>r Porte and Trayne as much dignitie and as great de=<lb break="no"/>
            pendency as was ever in any of yo<ex>u</ex>r place / &amp; w<ex>i</ex>th litle noyse or outward fume /
         </p>
         <p>
            <hi rend="bold">That</hi> yo<ex>u</ex>r Table is verye abundant, Free and noble w<ex>i</ex>thout Luxurie <lb/>
            That you are by nature noe flatterer, &amp; yett of greatest power in Cou<ex>r</ex>t <lb/>
            That you haue Magnifience/ and Frugalitye bothe togither <lb/>
            That you entertayne yo<ex>u</ex>r Guests and visitors w<ex>i</ex>th Noble curtesie/ but <lb/>
            voyde of Complem<ex>en</ex>t.  Lastlye that you maynetayne A due regard of <lb/>
            yo<ex>u</ex>r Person and place, &amp; yett are an Enemye to Froathie formalitye /
         </p>
         <p>
            <hi rend="bold">Now</hi> in the discharge of yo<ex>u</ex>r function/ They speake of twoe things, <lb/>
            that haue done you much honor namely That you haue had allwayes a speciall care <lb/>
            to the suppye of the Navye/ And likewise A more worthye and tender <lb/>
            respect towards the Kings onelye Sister, for her continuall support <lb/>
            from hence then shee hath founde before
         </p>
         <p>
            <hi rend="bold">They</hi> observe yo<ex>u</ex>r greatnes as firmelye established as eu<ex>er</ex> was any in <lb/>
            the Loue (and w<ex>hi</ex>ch is more) in the Estimac<ex>i</ex>on of A Kinge / whoe hath soe <lb/>
            signalizd his owne Constancye/ Besydes yo<ex>u</ex>r Addic<ex>i</ex>on of Strength (or <lb/>
            at least of lustre) by the Noblest Alliances of the Land /
         </p>

            <hi rend="bold">Amongst</hi> these Notes it is noe wonder if some obserue <ex>tha</ex>t betweene <lb/>
            A good willingness in yo<ex>u</ex>r Affections to satisfye all/ And an impossibility <lb/>
            in the matter, and yet an ymportunitye in the p<ex>er</ex>sons/ there doth now and <lb/>
            then I knowe not howe/ arise A little Impatience/ w<ex>hi</ex>ch must needs fall <lb/>
            vpon yo<ex>u</ex>r Lordshipp vnlesse you had bene cutt out of A Rocke of diamo<ex>n</ex>ds <lb/>
            especiallye hauinge bene before soe Conu<ex>er</ex>sant w<ex>i</ex>th liberall Studies, &amp; <lb/>
            w<ex>i</ex>th the freedome of yo<ex>u</ex>r owne Mynde

            <hi rend="bold">Now</hi> after this shorte collection touching yo<ex>u</ex>r most honoured p<ex>er</ex>son <lb/>
            I beseech you give mee leave to add likewise a litle what men saye <lb/>
            of the Writter. They saye I want not yo<ex>u</ex>r gratious good will towardes <lb/>
            mee according to the degree of my poore talent and Travells/ but they <lb/>
            saye I am wanting to my selfe. And in good faithe (my Lord) in saying <lb/>
            soe they saye truelye. For I am condemned I knowe not how by nature <lb/>
            to A kinde of vnfortunate Bashfullnes in my owne busines/ and it is <lb/>
            nowe to late to put mee into A newe Furnice Therefore it must <lb/>
            be yo<ex>u</ex>r Lo<ex>ordshi</ex>ps prop<ex>er</ex> worke/ and not onlye yo<ex>u</ex>r Noble but even yo<ex>u</ex>r Cha=<lb break="no"/>
            ritable goodnes that must in some blessed houre remember mee /
